B.o.B – Don’t Let Me Fall (Live)
I really like B.o.B’s style. He, like Rihanna, has a split personality. Bob and Bobby Ray both have their own respective styles. B.o.B is more braggadocio, hardcore street rapping. Bobby Ray does more softer melodic flows and mostly sings. B.o.B dresses in streetwear to represent his street persona. Bobby Ray has a nautical prep chic style. By nautical, I mean duffle coats, chinos, peacoats, soft pastels and earthtones, mostly blue and yellow colors. These are cool mellow colors. B.o.B wears bold colors in hoodies and jeans.
Although this split personality seems self-contradictory or absurd it in reality expresses truth. The braggadocio allows B.o.B to enter his ‘beast mode’ in a sort of self-actualizing transcendental state-of-mind. Growing up in the hood of ATL, he still is very much connected to the street. Bobby Ray still has urban appeal but is way less edgier geared toward the alternative pop-rock side. Andre 3000, Kanye, Lupe, Jay-Z, and T.I whom all influence him do this as well with their 3 Stacks, Louis Vuitton Don, Carrera Lu, Hova, and TI vs TIP identities respectively.
